How long will a geothermal pipe last?

How long will a geothermal pipe last?

The pipe that is used in most geothermal loops is SDR 11. Most pipe manufacturers have a 50 year warranty against faults and defects. SDR 11 pipe is made up of polyethylene which is more corrosion resistant and reacts well with most chemicals. This type of pipe is also not affected by bacteria or fungi which is naturally occurring in some soils. The joints on geothermal pipe are heat fused and are stronger than the pipe itself, they are also tested at high pressures to make sure no leaks or faults exist.

The bottom line is, as long as you do not dig into the pipe with something i.e. back hoe, auger, etc. the pipe isn't going to fail.
