President Obama introduces executive order that will increase amount of renewable resources
Geothermal heating and cooling is getting increased attention from the federal government as a means to protect the environment.
Geothermal heat pumps were the options highlighted in President Obama’s recent executive order titled “Planning for Federal Sustainability in the Next Decade.” The order aims to cut federal building greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent.
To help achieve that goal, the order requires federal government buildings to increase the amount of electricity used from renewable sources to 30 percent over the next 10 years. Geothermal was listed in the order as a means to accomplishing that expectation, as well as solar, wind and hydroelectric.
The federal government uses 360,000 buildings, many of which are outfitted with ClimateMaster geothermal heat pumps.
