A superior subfloor for the Proud Green Home of St Louis

A house is only as good as its structural elements. Along with the walls and framing, a very important element in a high performance home is the subfloor system and the sheathing used.  Clients want a stiff, durable floor that is long lasting and quiet.

With that in mind, selecting what subfloor sheathing to use is an important task for a builder.  At the Proud Green Home St. Louis, that decision was easy – Huber Engineered Wood’s AdvanTech flooring.  In fact, most homes built by Hibbs Homes include AdvanTech flooring. Why? It’s a high density product that is extremely strong and stiff, which is crucial to a high performance floor.

But density is only part of the equation. We also need a product that can withstand rain and snow during construction. We’ve found that AdvanTech uses a moisture resistant resin technology that reduces concerns about edges swelling and delamination. In fact, AdvanTech comes with a 500-day, no-sanding guarantee that is unmatched in our industry.

Our green certification goals for Proud Green Home St. Louis aren’t the only driving factor, but they do inform the decisions we make for materials in the home. AdvanTech falls in line with these requirements because it is certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and meets their strict harvesting guidelines, and leaves a much softer environmental footprint.

A primary concern for our homeowners, the Kuentz Family, is to strive for superior indoor air quality. Indoor air quality is an important element in our overall building practices, but for Proud Green Home in particular we are very aware that the materials we select must have no or very low VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) which would off-gas inside the home’s air. AdvanTech again is a great solution because it is manufactured without toxic glues and epoxies.

The Proud Green Homes St. Louis and Huber Engineered Wood’s AdvanTech flooring.  Pardon the pun, but it was a perfect fit!
