A federal income tax credit is available to homeowners who install qualified residential solar energy systems before 12/31/2016. This credit is equal to 30% of the eligible expenditures for solar water heaters, and for 30% of the eligible expenditures for photovoltaic systems. The credit applies to new and existing dwellings and vacation homes are eligible.
